To download firmware updates, right click on the file name and then "Save Target As". Note where you saved the file and refer to your manual for installation instructions.

If you'd like to learn more about the DMX Protocol and uses for it, a very good web site is DMX512-Online run by Ujjal Kar. There is also an official USITT DMX512 FAQ.

Reduction of Hazardous Substances
We are in the process of converting all of our manufacturing over to RoHS compliant. Please inquire about about the status of any product if your locality requires RoHS certification.

HHIS-1CH
A one channel, hand held ignition system for pyrotechnic, special effects, and rocket use. It features a pyro-safe ohmmeter, a capacitor discharge firing system, and even a white LED flashlight.

HHIS-1CH User/Instruction Manual, Version 2

Model 4201
The Model 4201a is being replaced with the 4201b. The new manual is not yet available. Please contact us for details.

Any computer or architectural controller with an RS-232 port may control the 4201, it may also be controlled with simple contact closures (switches). See the manual and app notes below for instructions.

SmartLight Windows software available from Edgeview Software LLC.

Mac OS X and Linux adaptor kit available now.

Two Scene Preset emulation software for Windows and source code available free, see below.

If you wish to write your own code, the Model 4201 may be accessed directly from Visual Basic, C and other languages on any type of computer that supports USB devices, or you may optionally install the Windows USB_Driver below to have it emulate a COM port.

Sample code (VB and VC++) and instructions for accessing the Model 4201 through the USB interface may be found in the book "USB Complete, Second Edition" by Jan Axelson. Also, the source code for our demo programs are available for download below.

USB COM-Port Emulation Driver. Windows only (Win-98, 2000, XP). XP complains about the driver, but it works fine(you may have to adjust your security settings). Note that the driver is NOT used if using SmartLight software or either of the demos below. The Mac/Linux adaptor kit works perfectly on all Mac/Linux/Windows systems that support USB (again, not used for the SmartLight software).

Using low cost (DJ type) dimmers (Firmware versions 1.5 and later have a special mode for low cost dimmers)

Model 4242-1, DMX512 Controlled 4-Channel DC Dimmer
This dimmer is intended for permanent installation in architectural and other applications . It may also be used in portable applications if a proper enclosure and connectors are provided.

Each of the four outputs can control up to 10A continously and have been designed for halogen lamps. They may also be used for LEDs and non-dim applications such as small motors and relays. Each output is rated for up to 40V (allowing up to three 75W halogen lamps in series per channel). The maximum combined load is 20A continous, this is the rating of the screw terminals used.

Once properly installed, the dimmer should last the life of the project. In case it doesn't, it carries the same 1 year warranty as our Model 4201.

Model 4242-5, Isolated DMX512 Splitter
The Splitter is a pretty simple device, the DMX512 input is split into four outputs. Each output is isolated from the input (but not each other) and driven by a separate chip. This provides electrical isolation between the input and the outputs and also prevents shorts and electrical noise on one output from disrupting the other 3 outputs. The Splitter is designed to fit inside a single-gang electrical box with a blank lid.

The Splitter requires a DC power source between 9 and 30V. The DC power supply is isolated from the DMX512 input but not the outputs. It typically draws 1 Watt or less, but may draw 6 or more Watts if the outputs are shorted. A shorted output will not hurt the Splitter, but it may overheat (especially in hot locations). If the temperature inside the Splitter reaches 85C, it will turn itself off until it cools down. If the cause of the overheating remains, it may cycle on and off.

A typical architectural application would be to have one or more of these devices driving permanently installed DMX512 luminaries in various locations throughout a building. Each output can drive 1000 feet of wire (CAT5 or RS-485 cable) and each output can have up to 64 devices attached to it (electrical load limit, all 512 channels are sent to all outputs). As most DMX512 devices do not have electrical isolation, more Splitters may be required depending on the power distribution and ground-loop problems at your site.

Once properly installed, the Splitter should last the life of the project. In case it doesn't, it carries the same 1 year warranty as our Model 4201.

Discontinued products
Models 4200, 4202, and 4203 have been discontinued. The 4201 can often be used as a direct replacement for the 4200. The 4202 and 4203 were MIDI based and no further support is planned, but they are available as a custom order.
